Bodywerks Repair Process
Because the collision repair process is very different from others automotive processes, we want to take a few minutes to help our clients develop an understanding of the various checkpoints through which each vehicle must pass before completing the repair cycle.

  1. The process begins when you, the client, files a claim with your insurance company.
  2. Insurance Appraisal - After arriving at BodyWerks, we promptly schedule an appointment with your insurance company to appraise the vehicle. Upon accepting liability for the repairs, work begins.
  3. Disassembly of Vehicle - When disassembling the vehicle, we first look for additional uncovered damage. If this kind of damage is found, a secondary appraisal is necessary from your insurance company. If no additional damage is found, the necessary parts are ordered immediately.
  4. Ordering and Delivery of Parts - While most parts are available for delivery within a few days, some parts may take longer. Work begins when all parts arrive so the vehicle may be reassembled properly.
  5. Structural & Mechanical Repairs - This is the point where the vehicle begins to be restored. Your vehicle is mounted on a frame machine, and our metal technicians go to work. At this point, we also make sure to inform you of the updated status of your vehicle.
  6. Priming and Paint Prepping - By priming, sealing, protecting against corrosion and chemically treating the body panels, we prepare your vehicle to be painted with the utmost care.
  7. Painting and Buffing - The multi-step painting process involves the preliminary taping, bagging, and masking, followed by painting, refinishing and buffing. While it takes time, our paint technicians make sure your finish looks as close as possible to the original paint job.
  8. Trim-Out and Final Repairs - This is the last step. All trim and molding is installed, then we begin any necessary mechanical repairs, including suspension, alignment, and air conditioning work.
  9. Wash, Inspect and Test-Drive - At this point, all repairs are completed. However, we want to make sure your vehicle is clean, inside and out. After washing your vehicle, we test-drive your car to make sure it's running up to standard. Your car is now ready to be delivered.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my car be ready?
When discussing your vehicle's situation with a BodyWerks estimator, he or she will provide you with an estimate of when we expect to have the vehicle ready for you. As you can see from the repair process, the body repair process is complicated. What's more important than anything else is that your vehicle is restored as closely to its original state as possible.

I?ve heard it can take weeks, sometimes a month or more to repair the body damage to a vehicle. Is this true?
Sometimes, yes. Depending on everything from the availability of the parts and depth of the damage to the length of the estimation process from insurance companies, the time it takes to repair the body damage to most vehicles is significantly longer than that of a service repair. Make sure to speak with your estimator regarding any questions you may have. And, of course, your estimator will keep in touch with you regarding any new developments.

Will my car ever be the same?
Your car will drive the same, feel the same and look the same.

Will it ever be 100% the same?
No. When a vehicle is built at the factory, certain processes are used that help build the vehicle before all parts are in place. This includes the painting process. Before any interior trim or engine parts are placed in the vehicle, the metal is painted. While this and many other processes are not available outside of the factory, our paint and metal technicians who use state-of-the art, high-tech equipment will be sure to restore your vehicle?s feel and finish as closely as possible to what it was the day you drove it off the lot.

I was told a part is on back order and can't be delivered. Isn't there any way you can locate one?
If the part you need exists-anywhere- we will find it. We have the ability to contact any retailer in the country to help locate a part. In some instances, however, a part is either rare, or not currently in production. In this case, an order will be placed with the factory to reinitiate production. Occasionally, but not often, this will take longer than expected.

All of my parts have arrived at your shop except one. Why haven't you begun work?
This only happens when a ?foundation? part has not yet arrived. The same would hold true if you were building a house. If the bricks, carpet and appliances had arrived, but not the material used to create the foundation, the house could not yet be built. Sometimes we do have to wait for these parts, in which case there may be a delay in repairing your vehicle.

What type of warranty do you offer?
On every vehicle we repair, we offer a one-year warranty on all parts and labor. If, at any time during the next year, you feel your vehicle is in need of warranty work, simply contact your estimator to schedule an appointment.

Why is it that supplemental repairs are needed after you've already completed the estimate?
In order to obtain approval from the insurance company on our estimate, we must leave the vehicle in the exact condition it was in when it was brought to us. After approval, our technicians begin to disassemble the vehicle. At this point, it is actually likely that we will find additional damage to parts not visible during the initial estimate. We must then schedule another estimation review with the insurance company to obtain further approval before proceeding. Depending on the depth of the damage, this process may repeat itself more than once.

Why do estimate prices vary between repair facilities?
There are a couple of possible reasons for this. First, not all body shops use factory-certified parts. When repairing a luxury vehicle, it is imperative that only parts certified by the factory be used. Second, our body shop has been certified to work on your vehicle because of the quality tools and training we provide our technicians. While this is an expense, it is one we wouldn't consider living without. Make sure to speak with your estimator regarding any questions you may have about the estimation process.

Will my insurance company cover the entire cost of the repair?
When it comes to ensuring the best care for your vehicle, BodyWerks only uses state-of-the-art equipment. Because of this advanced equipment and training we provide for our technicians, our cost to properly repair your vehicle is slightly more than the industry average, which insurance companies use as their standard. In the case your insurance company will not agree to cover the entire cost of the repair, your estimator will provide you with an estimate for the additional amount.

Are you able to coordinate all aspects of vehicle repair with my insurance company?
Yes, with the understanding that we ask for your assistance in two areas: encouraging your insurance company to work with us in a timely manner and being responsible for the final payment. As in any business, it is important for us to collect the fees for our services rendered. While we certainly do not require payment up front, payment from you or your insurance company is due upon picking up your repaired vehicle.
